From July 25th to 29th, a gathering was held for sisters in their second year of perpetual profession. During these five days and four nights, we were blessed to serve at “Notre Dame Brothers’ Home” (a child care center operated by our province) and “Loaves & Fishes Kitchen” (a soup kitchen for the homeless run by the Archdiocese of Gwangju).
The day after arriving at Notre Dame Brothers’ Home, we organized a “Mini Olympics” and water-play activities. The children’s energy and vibrant spirits filled the space, bringing joy to everyone. Some who had been elementary school students ten years ago returned as fine young adults to join us during this time, enriching the moments shared between the sisters and the children even further.
The following morning, we left Notre Dame Brothers’ Home early and headed to the nearby Loaves & Fishes Kitchen. After celebrating Mass with the volunteers, we prepped ingredients and prepared meals together. Sharing this time felt like offering our own small “five barley loaves and two fish.” Seeing the dedication of the sister and the volunteers—who poured their passion into building this ministry from scratch, step by step—allowed us to feel the touch of Jesus, who worked the miracle of the loaves and fishes.
Stepping away from our daily ministries to experience a new environment refreshed our inner spirits. Above all, the sisters’ passionate lives, who gladly give themselves up despite facing many challenges and difficult circumstances, filled us with hope and pride.
We are deeply grateful for this time prepared by the loving providence of our Good God, who always watches over us. Returning to our respective places of ministry, we pledge once again to follow Jesus with renewed hearts.
