Saint Aloysius Gonzaga Junior Secondary School, Mlati, Sleman, Yogyakarta, was founded in 1967 to meet the educational needs of the surrounding community. We remain grateful to our good God for His abundant blessings, especially in sending our two sisters (Sr. Maria Yakoba, SND, and Sr. Maria Klaudia, SND) to this great ministry. With love and patience, the teacher and the students were taught and accompanied, laying a strong foundation for future growth.
From the beginning, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Junior Secondary School has been built on faith and love. The values taught form the foundation that helps students become the best versions of themselves, excelling both academically and in character. Over the years, the school has served society and nurtured thousands of young people. In the last five years, the school has become increasingly diverse, welcoming students from many islands and cities across Indonesia, many of whom reside in the school’s dormitories.
On January 15, 2026, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Junior High School celebrated the 59th anniversary of its foundation. It was a blessed and memorable day for the students, teachers, and sisters alike. The morning began with a sense of joy and enthusiasm as everyone gathered, eager to take part in the festivities.
In the weeks leading up to the event, students happily rehearsed dances, songs, and short dramas. The theme of the celebration was “Ketoprak Cilik Lestarikan Budaya,” which translates to “Young People Preserving Culture through Ketoprak.”
Ketoprak is a traditional performing art from Central Java and Yogyakarta that blends dialogue, singing, and dancing, all set to the rhythmic sounds of Gamelan music. By choosing this theme, the school emphasized that, as responsible citizens, we share the duty to honor and preserve our rich cultural heritage.
The event began at 4:00 p.m. Special guests included our parish priest, Notre Dame sisters from another community, and the school supervisor. The celebration opened with a beautiful Javanese dance and instrumental music to welcome everyone. The guests enjoyed themselves and loved the performances.
Reflecting on our pioneer sisters, whose spirit and love for students give us encouragement and hope. Their example inspires teachers today to be more caring and patient, even in this modern era. With grateful hearts, our school community continues to pray and looks forward to remaining a welcoming place that provides an excellent education to support the school’s growth and success.
