Theresia was the daughter of farmer Josef Klüsener and his wife Johanna, née von Döllen. She was the youngest of 10 siblings. From 1943 until Easter 1951, she attended the Catholic elementary primary and secondary school in Beverbruch. She graduated with good grades and remained on her parents’ farm for the next two years. In 1953, she began a domestic science apprenticeship at the rectory in Altenoythe After the death of the housekeeper there, she continued her training at St. Vincenzhaus in Cloppenburg and completed it in 1955. For another five years, she worked as an assistant cook at the Liebfrauenstift women’s home in Gelsenkirchen until she entered our congregation in December 1960. At her investment in August 1961, she received her religious name, Sister Maria Jositha. From then on, St. Joseph was to be her companion. She revered him deeply.

Since Sister Maria Jositha had suffered from a deformity of her left foot since birth, she was eventually no longer able to manage the work in the kitchen. Two necessary surgeries in the following years brought no relief. So, she served in the refectory to the best of her ability and helped in the sewing room. Her sewing skills were highly valued there, and so in 1971 she began an apprenticeship as a ladies’ tailor at the House of the Good Shepherd in Münster, which she successfully completed in 1973 with her apprenticeship diploma. She worked in the sewing room until 1977, after which she took on the role of sacristan at Liebfrauenburg in Coesfeld and later at Kloster Annenthal. She earned the necessary qualification for this position in 1978, passing the examination administered by the episcopal examination board in Münster with very good results.

Sister Maria Jositha was a dedicated sacristan; she loved serving in the sacristy and chapel and had a talent for floral arrangements. She greeted the monks and priests who came to celebrate Mass with warmth, but she also enjoyed having a witty remark at the ready. Sister M. Jositha always had a twinkle in her eye; her dry sense of humor often left us speechless—she was a very unique person. As her strength began to wane, she took on small tasks here in the house starting in 2005. The beginning of dementia caused her – and us – great sorrow. After a fall in her room and a necessary operation on her left foot, Sister Maria Jositha became dependent on a wheelchair. She longed to be with her parents:  “…I’d so love to be with Mom and Dad – do you think it’ll be a long time yet?” “I don’t know, Sister Jositha.”

Sister Maria Jositha was lovingly cared for by our nursing, caregiving, and housekeeping staff and supported by the sisters.

Sister M. Jositha was bedridden for only a short time; then, on the feast day of her baptismal name, the good God called her to be with Him in eternity.
