Therezia Zelia Theisen was born into a family deeply rooted in Christian values. The second of nine children of João Theisen Filho and Amalia Olinda Theisen, she grew up in an environment where faith, respect, and a spirit of service shaped her character and guided her throughout her life.
Responding to God’s call, she entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of Notre Dame in Passo Fundo on February 12, 1961. Upon entering religious life, she received the name Sister Maria Rogéria, thus beginning a life of faithful, simple, and generous service to God.
Committed to serving with competence and compassion, she continually sought opportunities for professional growth. She completed several courses in the healthcare field and also earned a technical certificate in accounting, placing her knowledge and skills at the service of the Congregation and those entrusted to her care.
Between 1965 and 1999, she carried out a fruitful ministry in healthcare. She served as a nursing assistant and coordinator, ministered in the Health Care Ministry, and served as a general supervisor of healthcare institutions. In every community and mission where she served, she was known for her professionalism, her spirit of service, and her profound respect for the dignity of every person.
Later, she served in other communities, where she continued to contribute generously to the Congregation’s evangelizing mission. One of her fellow Sisters recalls: “I had the privilege of knowing Sister M. Rogéria and witnessing her extraordinary dedication, competence, and spirit of service. I especially remember the care and precision with which she carried out bank reconciliations. She was exceptionally thorough and attentive to the smallest details. I witnessed her accuracy, commitment, and above all, the joy with which she carried out these responsibilities. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of having worked with someone so generous, dedicated, and always willing to help, who placed her talents at the service of the Province and the Kingdom of God.”
Sister Maria Rogéria’s life was marked by unwavering faithfulness to her vocation. She lived the mission entrusted to her with profound love, bearing witness to the charism of the Sisters of Notre Dame through her care for others, her dedication to the community, and her fraternal concern for all those around her.
Cheerful and welcoming by nature, she cultivated lasting friendships and remained attentive to the needs of those around her. She found joy in serving and expressed her kindness through the small gestures of everyday life, touching others with simple acts of thoughtfulness and care.
We pray that Mary, to whom Sister Maria Rogéria so often entrusted her journey of faith, may now lead her into the fullness of life with Christ. May the witness of her life continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her and walking beside her.
