On December 5, Maria Auxiliadora School, alongside Sister Renete Maria Prevedello Cocco, SND, was honored with an award at the Canoas City Council.

Maria Auxiliadora School Honored for 80 Years of Excellence in Education

Established in 1944, the school celebrates its 80th anniversary, marking decades of dedicated service and education in the community. Over the years, Maria Auxiliadora School has become a cornerstone of Canoas shaping generations of students and playing a pivotal role in fostering engaged and responsible citizens.

During the ceremony, Councilor Gilson dos Santos Oliveira, who initiated the tribute, praised the Sisters of Notre Dame’s arrival in Canoas and their dedication to education. He highlighted the school’s consistent commitment to high-quality education and its unwavering support for the people of Canoas over the past eight decades.

For Principal Vagner Paulo Maccalli, the recognition is a testament to the vital role that Maria Auxiliadora School plays in the community. “This tribute reflects the essential contributions of Maria Auxiliadora School and provides an opportunity to celebrate the Notre Dame legacy and its impact on forming committed citizens,” he remarked.

Sister Renete Maria Prevedello Cocco Honored as Canoas Citizen

On the same day, the Canoas City Council awarded Sister Renete Maria Prevedello Cocco, SND, the prestigious title of Canoas Citizen, acknowledging her outstanding dedication and service as a religious leader and educator to the city.

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Sister Renete Maria expressed deep gratitude for the honor and reaffirmed her commitment to serving the Canoas community with unwavering devotion: “As a Canoas citizen, I am deeply grateful for the honor of this recognition. Guided by God’s Providence, I began my mission as a Sister of Notre Dame here in Canoas. This occasion touches the core of my life and mission, representing not just an acknowledgment but a milestone of faith, hope, and love woven into both my personal journey and the history of this city,” she remarked.
