The Sisters of Our Lady in England (also known internationally as Sisters of Notre Dame) began their mission and ministries in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, in 1933. At the request of the parish priest of St. Augustine’s Parish and under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Westminster, the sisters accepted responsibility for the parish school and domestic services at the priory where a community of Canons Regular of St. Augustine lived. The sisters have since left this original ministry to answer a call to go to Kettering, in the Diocese of Northampton, where they taught in various schools and ministered in the parish of St. Edward. Today the Sisters of Our Lady manage a language school for our sisters who come from other countries to learn English. This language school is part of the Oxford College of English and provides opportunities to become proficient in English, while living in community with the sisters in Kettering.
