Two Celebrations of Our Jubilee With the Mpala Community

The sisters of the Mpala community in Uganda, together with the postulants, invited young men and women between the ages of 13 and 20 to a gathering they arranged on Sunday, January 26, 2025. The sisters prepared by first sending out announcements to several sub-parishes within Mpala parish, inviting all the young people in the age group. Sisters Mary Juliet Ahaisibwe and Anna Maria Nassande led an introductory game to kick off the event at 2:00 PM.

Following that, the young people interacted with the sisters and with each other in various groups, which gave them a better understanding of our congregation and our way of life. The young people asked the sisters several questions about prayer, vocation, catechesis, and other aspects of life in general. It was a very rewarding and open exchange. Two sisters dressed as pigmies as part of the sisters’ welcome program for the young people. The youth were quite thrilled about this drill. The youth were able to engage with the sisters through several games. After Sr. Violet Marie gave a general talk, all were invited to the next meeting in February. During this wonderful gathering of young people, the parish catechists, Maria and Kayiwa also joined the youth and participated in all activities.

The second celebration was on the 30th of January 2025. The sisters and the postulants ate spaghetti with ragu sauce and fresh greens, a classic Italian dish. This is one of the Jubilee practices to share traditional meals from different continents where the sisters of Notre Dame minister. Before the supper, the sisters joined together to sing two of the Holy Spirit General Delegation’s Jubilee songs. The sisters were reminded of our German background and origins during this vibrant day.
