On January 14, 2014 Sister Maria Canisie Skrabanja returned to her home province of Tegelen. She has been living here in Rome for 21 years, first assisting with the work at Villa Maria Regina and then ministering at the Motherhouse. On the evening of January 13 the Motherhouse Community celebrated Sister’s years of Congregational service with a special missioning service and prayers for her as she returns to the Netherlands. At the evening meal the community gifted Sister with a CD of morning and evening prayer in Italian, a scrapbook of memories, a storybook of tales about cats (Sister was fond of Spider, the Motherhouse cat, and faithfully took care of him.) as well as a certificate entitling her to a return visit to the Motherhouse. We thank Sister Maria Canisie for her untiring service to so many sisters and guests from all over the world. Sister Maria Canisie’s love and respect for our deceased sisters buried in Rome (Sister regularly visited their graves bringing flowers and candles), her warm hospitality, and practical approach in meeting the needs of the Motherhouse community will always be remembered and appreciated. We will miss her and her unique sense of humor.
