The Sisters from our Notre Dame Syokimau Convent visited the residents of Kicheko Slum on November 18, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They took these food items like maize and wheat flour, rice, beans, sugar, tea leaves, salt, sugar, snacks, and some packets of sweets. They also brought clothes and shoes for the children.
The Sisters made arrangements with a woman who was very passionate about the needy in the slum. She organized the families inside and outside of the small hall there. The Sisters introduced themselves to the people who were seeing them for the first time. The Sisters then had an opportunity to speak to the group about Christmas and to encourage the children who were Catholics to join catechism classes. Finally, the Sisters stressed the importance of parents educating their children, helping them to behave well in society, and sharing the little they have with their neighbors.
After the talk, the Sisters started sharing the items they had brought. The children were given sweets and other snacks. Then, this was followed by sharing the supply of food items with the adults. About 85 families were given food items. The clothes and shoes were given to one of the ladies who is their leader in the slum. These items will be given out later since it was going to be necessary to check the correct sizes for the children.
The people who attended were very grateful and the Sisters came back home so happy to have touched the lives of these needy persons.
