The learners and the entire school staff of Notre Dame School in Syokimau, Nairobi, Kenya held a Kitchen Fun Day on on March 18th, 2026. The theme of the day was Cooking, Learning, and Sharing. Each class, with the guidance and support of their teachers, developed a menu plan. Parents were requested to support their children in purchasing the food items listed on the menu. Students were instructed to come to school in their school uniform and chef gear (apron and cap). The menu items ranged from rice, chips, chapati, beef, sausages, chicken, vegetables, salads, and fruits.

The learners and all parties involved were given an orientation by the Headteacher, Sister Mary Elizabeth, a day before the fun day.

This activity provided students with the opportunity to engage in practical learning experiences beyond the classroom. They developed essential life skills, including teamwork, responsibility, creativity, time management, and basic culinary skills. The children were very creative and eager to learn from each other. It was a delight to see little fingers peeling potatoes, sweeping the yards, and taking part in the various activities.

Sister Mary Elizabeth Wanza expressed her appreciation to the teachers, support staff, club trainers, and the transport team for their exceptional organisation, coordination, and commitment, from preparation, supervision, to cooking, serving, and thorough cleaning of the cooking areas.

She also thanked the parents for their support and cooperation in making the Kitchen Fun Day a success.

May God bless our Notre Dame School, Syoikimau, Nairobi, Kenya.
