To carry out the recommendation of the 2022 General Chapter: “Strengthen and expand our international programs that promote the culture of encounter and caring”, the Notre Dame missionary community of Salaverry, Peru, has, beginning in December, welcomed Sisters of Notre Dame from the USA for a mission Ad Gentes experience.
During a period of just over a month, the missionaries have taken part in the community’s routine. They participated in the activities of the Pastoral da Criança, and taught English classes to teachers and administrative staff at the Catholic University of Trujillo Benedicto XVI, a program sponsored by the Catholic University.
Three Sisters from the US have already participated in the program. Sister Mary Dean Phafler (Dec/2022), Sister Marie Manning (Jan and Feb/2023), and Sister Teresia Betz. The latter arrived on March 14th and will remain in Peru until April 14th. More sisters are expected to immerse themselves in this missionary experience in May and June this year.
This Missionary experience in Peru has been a very enriching opportunity for everyone involved. We are grateful to Sisters Maria Adélia Dannus, Mirian Terezinha Garcia, and Lourdes Maria Reck for their commitment to welcoming and directing our American Sisters. In this way, we can dream of a world without borders.
