The General Conference participants arrived in Bangalore by September 30. On October 1 we celebrated the momentous double-headed event of our Foundation Day and the commencement of our General Conference 2024. The opening Mass presided over by    Fr. Dionysius Vaz, the Karnataka Jesuit Provincial, and Sr. Mary Ann’s meaningful opening address set the perfect tone for the General Conference, instilling us with a sense of purpose and unity.

We were privileged to have two excellent resource persons for the week: Br. Philip Pinto, the former Superior General of Christian Brothers, inspired us as leaders to let go of the old, embrace new perspectives, and “show the Face of the Father” to others. Fr. Cedric Prakash SJ shared invaluable insights into India’s intricate socio-political and religious landscape, enlightening us and offering a broader perspective on the opportunities and challenges that await. He urged us to be prophetic women and address structural, endemic, and systemic societal issues.

Immersing ourselves in the beauty of Indian culture on our designated cultural day was an experience filled with joy and appreciation. We wore traditional Indian attire, such as saris and salwars, sparking immense excitement and appreciation for the rich traditions.

We had an opportunity to visit our communities in Mysore and to experience the warm hospitality of our sisters. The visit to Mysore Palace and Brindavan Gardens was enriching. The Mysore Palace, with its magnificent architecture and intricate details, offered a glimpse into the royal heritage of Mysore. Brindavan Gardens offered a refreshing contrast with lush greenery, symmetrical design, and vibrant flowers. These visits were an important part of our trip, offering moments of learning, relaxation, and admiration for India’s rich heritage. Please continue to pray for us so that we may be receptive to the directions of the Spirit during these days of sharing and discussions.
