Incheon province creates a monthly program of various themes so that girls learn about religious life and get interested in it.
Last August we held an eco-camp for a day under the theme of ‘green future together.’ Fourteen girls reflected on what each of them could do to protect the ecosystem, shared ideas, and decided to put them into action. During this time especially focusing on the value of water and our need for it in our lives, we looked back at our habit of consuming water and appreciated it. We also talked about the water of eternal life in our hearts and took some time to dwell in the Lord, the spring of our souls. As many of the girls had never met one another before, they felt rather shy at first; however, they dreamt together of hope for the recovery of the ecosystem through sharing.
Another activity in the program was to decorate one’s own companion plant and stone with a loving heart for the ecosystem. Our participants, who gave a name to each of the plants and stones and took delight in carefully decorating the space for them, appeared energetic and happier than ever.
Despite frequently hearing the term “climate change,” the young girls who had not had many opportunities to deeply reflect on its connection to their lives, took it seriously and willingly dedicated their resolutions for the environment before God, allowing us to find hope.
We are now living in a time when we cannot guarantee that these bright and innocent girls will be able to see the same world later.
For the world in which they could live happy lives, we are dreaming of a green future together through reflections and actions.
