On Thursday, June 15, the Motherhouse community had a double celebration: the 68th anniversary of the Motherhouse and Sister Mary Kristin’s Nameday.
During the day, the community anticipated Sister Mary Kristin’s Nameday in view of the fact that she would be leaving for California before the actual feast. The day began with a festive liturgy in honor of the Sacred Heart, followed by a special breakfast.
During dinner our English language students presented sister with a bouquet of yellow paper roses which they had made.
In the afternoon, the community continued celebrating with ice cream socials followed by a barbecue supper.
In the evening, the community recalled that it was 68 years ago when Mother Mary Vera and the Motherhouse community of 1949 moved from Casa Pio X at Via Como to the new site on Monte Mario. Sister Maria Elke treated the sisters with a PowerPoint presentation featuring photos of the house as it looked at that time along with reading excerpts from the Annals. It was amazing to see what the house looked like and how hard the sisters worked to make it a new home. In the refectory there was also a display of some items from our Archives for the Sisters to look at and enjoy. We certainly have reason to be grateful for our beautiful home!
