Following tradition, the preparation for our jubilee celebration began during Holy Week for our Jubilarian of Grace, Sr. M. Hatwig Doctor; our Iron Jubilarian, Sr. M. Hedwigia Kleineidam; our Diamond Jubilarians, Sr. M. Agnilde Nee, Sr. M. Paulitta Schmedes, Sr. M. Heintrud Fischer, Sr. M. Monika Spille and our Golden Jubilarians, Sr Andrea Maria Schafers and Sr. Gisela Marie Demming. During this week, these jubilarians were invited to a coffee party, where they shared their vocation stories. On Holy Saturday, they visited the sisters’ cemetery in the town and the Coesfeld Cross at St. Lambert’s Church. On Easter Monday, the Jubilarians began their annual retreat with Fr. Kappenstiel’s explanation of the Emmaus story. Their retreat ended with the Jubilee Mass, where he made the connection between the power of the Holy Spirit and a wind turbine. Just as the turbine is moved by the wind and passes on the energy it generates, so we can be moved by the Spirit and pass spiritual energy to others.
Afterward, the sisters celebrated in all the refectories. It was a joy to have Sr. M. Gratia Groot-Berning join us as a Diamond Jubilarian, after her hospital stay. A sign of strength and mutual solidarity in the European Province came with the arrival of Sr. M. Aidan Richards from England and Sr. M. Hermgard Lindemann from Vechta for the celebration.
Sr. M. Paula Wessel, the Provincial Superior, thanked the jubilarians for their life choices and their commitment to the community and their ministries.
