Ida Budde was born to the farmer Heinrich Budde and his wife Christine, born Nettebrock, in Walstedde. She was the youngest of their five children. Her youth was overshadowed by the Second World War, at the end of which the parental farm was destroyed. Ida helped with all her strength with the rebuilding of the Budde/Herrenstein farm and she felt whole-heartedly attached to the countryside.
Ida knew the sisters of Notre Dame through her aunt, our Sister Maria Cortilla Nettebrock. But she came into closer contact with the sisters when she began her training at the housekeeping school in Marienhain, Vechta.
In 1949, Ida entered our congregation and received the name Sister Maria Heinrita. After a time of preparation, she made her first profession in 1952 in Kloster St. Michael in Ahlen.
She loved to teach cooking to the daughters of farmers and so she exerted all her skills when she was in charge of the kitchen. For many years, the housekeeping school in Marienhain was her field of work. With a lot of energy, humor, and drive she worked among the students, who gratefully and joyfully remember the time with her when they come to visit.
In 1962, Marienhain became the center of the province in Lower Saxony. Sister M. Heinrita assumed the management of the kitchen and took good care of all the needs of the sisters and the many guests. (So far a report that was published in the local newspaper on the occasion of her golden jubilee. It was her wish to quote it in her death notice.)
On August 1, 2005, Sister M. Heinrita entered her well-deserved retirement and assumed little tasks in the community in Marienhain. On August 1, 2011, she moved to our infirmary because her strength was failing. She kept participating in all the events of our community with great interest and supported us by her interceding prayers.
In the afternoon of June 5, 2015, Sister Maria Heinrita gave her life back into God’s hands. We believe that she will now enjoy eternal life with Him.
In some thoughts she left in writing about her life and her dying, she wrote the following words:
“I received my life from God’s hand,
live my life under God’s hand,
I give it back into God‘s hand“. Augustinus
Thank you for everything! – Sr. M. Heinrita Budde
