“All shall be well…and all manner of things shall be well….”
Anne was the youngest of the four children born to Harold and Marie (Wright) Robinson. Her parents and siblings made home a lively place where family was loved and treasured; the strong bonds formed in these early years lasted throughout her life. Anne attended St. Mary Parish Elementary School and Elyria District Catholic High School, both staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame. She was a good student, valued learning and was a thoughtful contributor to the school newspaper and yearbook. Anne discerned her call to religious life and entered as a postulant on September 8, 1956. At investment she received the name Sister Mary Eric.
Sister Anne Marie received a bachelor’s degree in English and history from Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio, and a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota in English literature. A life-long learner, Sister later earned an Advanced Diploma in Catechetics and certification as a webmaster. She taught high school classes for almost thirty years and accepted the responsibility of dean and assistant principal. Sister was dedicated to the ministry of education. She was appreciated and respected by staff and students alike – a woman of few words, high expectations and a no-nonsense approach. Her concern, love and quiet presence made her an inspiration and mentor for many.
In 1990 Sister served as a provincial councilor; in 1992 she was chosen to assume the position of assistant general in Rome. Sister Anne Marie was gifted with the ability to listen intently, reflect, then speak – always incisively, cutting right to the heart of the matter.
When Sister Anne Marie returned to Chardon, she continued to use her extensive administrative experience and her commitment to mission through addressing province needs as coordinator of technology and secondary education. She volunteered at Metro Catholic Parish School in marketing and advancement and at the Diocesan Office for Women. Volunteering at the Holden Arboretum offered a special place to visit and enjoy her love for nature. In the Chardon archives, Sister expertly sorted and cataloged entries for almost eight years. Sister Anne Marie’s love for reading and participation in good discussions were gifts shared in community, as well as her dry sense of humor.
Sister Anne Marie was an unassuming, thoughtful and thankful wisdom-woman. Her engaging smile and inner peace were gift and blessing to all even as she suffered from severe vascular complications in the past months. She prayed with Julian of Norwich, “All shall be well…and all manner of things shall be well…for there is a force of love moving through the universe that holds us fast and will never let us go.” May Sister rejoice in the unconditional love of our good and provident God.
