Our Notre Dame Mission is Dynamic – I
Holy Cross Province, Passo Fundo, RS, Brazil
“Let us do all we can to make the good God known and loved
by all around us.” Julie Billiart, Letter 162
In the dynamics of the Notre Dame mission, we respond to the need for evangelization in different places and open communities. However, the time comes when it is necessary to prioritize our commitments to those most thirsty for Christian formation. Consequently, we need to close communities and end ministries in some places in order to continue to serve in others.
In 1973, courageous Sisters of Notre Dame, as missionary disciples, set out to incarnate the love of God in a new reality and culture in the city of Feijó, Acre. Trusting in God’s goodness and provident care and committed to the poor and marginalized, for 48 years the Sisters promoted evangelization and human life, announced the Gospel and centered on the Word of God, lived as prophets of justice, peace and, the integrity of creation.
In this nearly half-century of service to the Church and to the community of Feijó, Acre, through formal and informal education, Pastoral Care, Catechesis, and leadership formation, the Sisters of Notre Dame helped generations of Christians to live a committed faith and formed leaders to provide continuity to pastoral services and to promote human life. At the end of 2021, however, the Holy Cross Province handed over the ministry to the Redemptorist Fathers. May the good God continue to bless this mission and make the seeds sown sprout and flourish.
