During Catholic Sisters Week, March 8-14th, Catholic Sisters in the Toledo, Ohio region joined the nationwide collaborative effort initiated by the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) to serve persons in need and bring much needed awareness to the current increase in food insecurity and underlying causes, such as the COVID-19 Pandemic, poverty, unemployment/under-employment, and inconsistent access to healthy food.
Challenged by LCWR Region IV, the Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of St. Francis-Sylvania, Sisters of Mercy, Sisters of St. Francis-Tiffin, Sisters of the Visitation, Ursuline Sisters and Sisters of Mercy in Alma Michigan accepted the CHALLENGE TO END HUNGER.
On Friday, March 12, many Sisters of Notre Dame gathered at Walt Churchill’s Market in Maumee, Ohio to accept food donations from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to benefit the Toledo Seagate Food Bank. Two trucks from Seagate were filled by the end of the day.
With such an overwhelming response from our community, we can proudly report that we collected 24,294 lbs. (THAT IS 12 TONS) of food that will be supplied to families in need throughout Northwest Ohio. Way to go, Northwest Ohio.
