“Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me.” Song of Songs 2:10b
“Come, Lord Jesus” is the prayer of the Church throughout Advent. For Sister Maria Ana Glória this coming took place at 8:45 p.m. on December 20, 2016. On the previous day, aware of her weakened condition, sister received the anointing of the sick.
Ana Glória, born in Caçapava do Sul, is the fourth of five children born to Coriolano Luiz do Nascimento and Notaride Fulco do Nascimento. Two of the children were called to Consecrated Religious Life: Roberto, as a Pallottine priest and Ana Glória, as a Sister of Notre Dame, invested on February 23, 1943. In 1945, fifteen days after sister´s religious profession, her mother died. Her father remarried and adopted a child whom Sister Maria Ana Glória welcomed as her stepsister.
She nourished her spiritual life and expressed the charism of the Congregation through her kindness, trust in God, simplicity, sensitivity to people’s needs, and harmony in community life. Sister had a great devotion to Our Lady and Saint Therese of Lisieux.
At a young age, she started working in a pharmacy. In 1947, she received a Pharmacy Practitioner Certificate. Her ministry in this area extended from 1944 to 2007. Sister M. Ana Glória experienced great esteem due to her competence. Many of these years she ministered at Santa Casa de Misericordia, São Lourenço do Sul. She was sensitive to people’s needs and helped the poor by providing free samples received from laboratories. Retiring from this ministry, she continued as sacristan at Santa Casa until early October this year, when she moved to Recanto Aparecida for personal health care.
At the age of 55 Sister M. Ana Glória completed studies as a Technician in Accounting. Later she became skilled at using computers and applied this knowledge as a resource until the age of 94. Later in life with diminished strength, she was the community treasurer, took care of the annals and the sisters´ medicines. She also nurtured strong family bonds and cultivated deep friendships. She liked to play cards with the sisters and friends who kept her company. Sister was a soccer fan and rejoiced with the victories of her team.
God, in His infinite goodness and mercy, bestowed upon Sister Maria Ana Glória a long life. The verse of the book of Songs taken from the liturgy of her burial perfectly applies to her: “Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me”. May Sister Maria Ana Glória delight in the joy and peace of the loving embrace of the One she loved so dearly.
