“I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living“! (Ps 27:13)

ThiatildTogether with her two younger siblings, Sister Maria Thiatild, Hedwig Bücker, spent a happy childhood and youth in their parental home.

After completing school in 1943, she helped for several years in her parental household. Being very interested in needlework and sewing, she attended needlework lessons in Oelde in her free time. Later she could improve her skills by training as a dressmaker.

In 1953, Sister Maria Thiatild asked for admission into our congregation. After her religious formation, she ministered at the Liebfrauenburg in Coesfeld and here in Kloster Annenthal. This ministry was only interrupted by her one-year assistance in Münster and Nottuln.

In accordance with her skills, her main service was that in the sewing-room. But she was always ready to do other tasks as well. Her assistance was often happily accepted.

In August 2008, her eyesight started to deteriorate and became worse in the course of the years. This had a profound effect on her ability to lead an independent life.

With the support of her co-sisters, the staff and the social service of the care center and the close contact to her family, she became inwardly ready to accept her situation. So she was able to enjoy the blessings that each day had in store for her. She was grateful and expressed her gratitude.

The final, great challenge in her life was to cope with and accept the impairment of her health caused by a serious stroke which she suffered in December, 2015. The loving and gentle care she received as well as the compassionate support of her family gave her inner peace and calmness. One of her last sentences was “I am content. Everything is fine“.

In this spirit, we can confidently take leave of Sister Maria Thiatild, trusting that she is seeing the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
