Jacquelyn was the first and only girl born to Charles and Virginia (Katuscak) Sefcovic. She and her two younger brothers grew up spoiled with love. Home was a lively place where family was treasured; the strong bonds formed in these early years lasted throughout her life. Challenges that came were met with faith and trust. Due to family moves, Jacquelyn attended several different elementary schools where, even at the tender age of seven, she began thinking about becoming a sister. After enrolling at St. Michael High School in Cleveland, staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame, her desire for religious life began to be realized. In January of her junior year, Jacquelyn entered Notre Dame Academy as an aspirant. She became a postulant on February 2, 1957, and at investment received the name Sister Mary Joseph Frank.

As a novice, Sister Mary Jacquelyn began her long ministry of service to her sisters in community. The early training she had received from her mother enabled her to bring flexibility and knowledge of household skills to her various ministries. She was devoted to helping others and enjoyed being of service.

Her first assignment was to assist in the provincial center sewing room. For more than fourteen years Sister mastered the art of sitching with love and was meticulous in everything she made or repaired for the sisters. From the sewing room, Sister moved to Notre Dame Academy in Middleburg, Virginia, a high school and boarding school for girls. Here she assumed the role of director of household services. Sister was responsible for the women who maintained the house and school. Working with them, the students and the staff was a delight. Sister Mary Jacquelyn was appreciated and respected for teaching many of the girls the basic household skills that make a house a home. Setting a table, decorating, cooking, cleaning—each was important.

In 1987 Sister returned to the Chardon provincial center and continued to minister, reaching out to help wherever needed. She served as receptionist and assisted with secretarial work in the health care center for many years. Perhaps the ministry which most touched the hearts of the sisters and the staff for more than thirty years was her dedication to food services.

Sr. Jackie had a keen eye for what needed to be done, contributed unselfishly, loved being busy and expected no recognition. No matter how small, all was done well and conscientiously. She remained involved in food service ministry until just before this past Christmas.

Sister Mary Jacquelyn was an unassuming, hard-working, prayerful woman. Daily doing God’s will was her heart’s desire. Her love for Jesus was simple, profound and deeply personal. We are grateful for the gift of Sister’s presence among us. May she rest in peace.
