Recycling is converted into wheelchairs for disabled, Passo Fundo, Brazil

This idea was the student initiative of Grazielli Perez Battistini, then other students of the Collegio Notre Dame Queen of Apostles, who also engaged in the aluminum seals fundraising campaign held by the network Acoor Hotels. A daughter of an employee of the company, Grazielli suggested her educational institution stimulate their educational community to participate in the action taken in order to acquire and donate wheelchairs to charities.

Embracing the cause, the Collegio encouraged students, educators and staff to collect the seals that, at the end of the fundraising campaign, filled 12 PET bottles. Adding the seals collected by children of other educational institutions resulted in the amount necessary for the acquisition of five wheelchairs. One was donated to a long-stay institution for the elderly linked to the parish of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles, near the Collegio Notre Dame.

Among the students who secured the most donations was Julia Bezerra Perdigão, third year, and Lisandra Sousa Cavalcante and Anna Beatriz Nardo, fourth year of elementary school.

Daniel Battistini, the father of Grazielli, knowing that Collegio Notre Dame supports social projects, promoted the collection. “We the children of Collegio Notre Dame Queen of Apostles, in São Paulo, and other children from various schools collected many seals, which resulted in five wheelchairs.
We wish to thank all for your support of the project and your encouragement so that children continue the example”.

According to the Director Sr. Elena Bini, the new wheelchairs were donated to the Vincentian Parish of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles, who care for seniors who need daily chairs to get around.
