“Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner”.- From the gospel of the day of her death

In the early morning hours, a long, fulfilled life found its perfection in God. Sister Maria Gunhild was ready to accept the invitation of “the heavenly Lord“ unlike those invited in the gospel (Mt 22:1-14). Some weeks ago, she had already said, “Every day is right to die“.

Sister grew up as the eldest of four siblings in a real, down-to-earth farming family in the Münsterland. She loved talking about her childhood and youth, in which “our granny“ played an important role. In the family, practical faith was a matter of course as well as getting involved and helping out in the parental home, on the farm, and taking care of the animals.

This attentive and natural “getting involved“ in tasks is something that Sister Maria Gunhild also practiced in her long religious life after she had started her novitiate in Mülhausen in August 1949.

Sister ministered in different houses in our Congregation and was fully committed to the tasks assigned to her.

When she came to our Haus Salus in Mülhausen in 2005, she was eager to participate in community life and in the recreational activities offered, but she also took the liberty to withdraw when it was good for her to do so.

During the last weeks, she could no longer leave her bed due to increasing health problems and weakness. With great serenity and hope she was ready to accept the invitation of the heavenly king to come to the meal.

In faith we know that Sister Maria Gunhild is now united with her loved ones and secure in God. We remember her as a happy and contented co-sister.
